2025-05-30 Exploring Chinese Traditional Marriage Culture through Cooking

The Home Economics Department, in collaboration with the English and Chinese History Departments, organized a Chinese Wedding Cake Workshop (傳統中式嫁喜禮製作班) at Kee Wah Bakery Studio on May 30, 2025. A total of 18 students from S3 and 3 teachers participated in this event, which offered them the opportunity to explore Chinese traditional marriage culture through the art of making Chinese wedding cakes.
This initiative beautifully integrated culinary skills, language learning, and historical insights, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of this meaningful cultural tradition. Attendees not only learned how to craft authentic Chinese pastries but also discovered the rich symbolism behind the various ingredients and designs used in these cakes.
Beyond baking, students expanded their English vocabulary related to culinary arts and cultural concepts. Meanwhile, the Chinese History Department offered valuable insights into the evolution of Chinese marriage customs, enhancing participants' appreciation for cultural heritage. This engaging experience brought tradition to life, celebrating culture through the joy of cooking!
